Bedgebury Pinetum

We had a very pleasant morning here at Bedgebury on the Kent/Sussex border. The pinetum is a collection of over 12,000 trees with 1,800 varieties of mostly coniferous but also broad leafed trees, set in 320 acres. One thing I was keen to see was the Old Man of Kent - a 51 metre Grand Fir - one of the tallest trees in England - and certainly in this part of the southeast. Imagine my disappointment on discovering that it had been cut down in 2016 - a combination of disease and high winds. Ah well, it's an excellent place - well worth a visit.
Extra shows what is left of the Old Man.
