Torino

We took the train from Milan to Turin.

Turin (Torino) is a great discovery. A very picturesque city with not many tourists, full of history and museums.
Pictured is the Cappella della Sacra Sindone (The Chapel of the Holy Shroud) where the Turin Shroud is kept.
It's housed in a box (that reminded me of the arc of the covenant) in a quiet corner of the church. Nearby is a museum with information and art of the shroud and its public appearances down through the centuries.

I found it fascinating to see the contrast in of its public viewings.
In contemporary pictures, the shroud is analysed and photographed by people in lab coats.
In the sixteenth century it was paraded in public squares by people wearing Pope hats to crowds of thousands.

Whether the Shroud is authentic or not, doesn't really matter when you see with your own eyes how important it is to people.
A fascinating historical mystery.

Also featured today.....sunshine, beer, gin and pasta!

In the background, the Mole Antonelliana.
