Light spaces

When I was here before, the colleagues in Turku Law Faculty were about to move out of their building whilst it was renovated. They've recently moved back in - and the renovation is very nice indeed. The central area is a wonderful light space - even on a dreich rainy day like today. There are great touches wherever you go - such as deep armchairs of a distinctive Finnish design to fall asleep in. It's a bit overburdened with electronic locks, on corridors, on the lift, and on teaching rooms. Hence, the colleagues resort to that well known twentieth century solution to a twenty first century problem of the self-locking seminar room door by sticking the waste paper basket in the doorway to prevent it closing in a manner that excludes latecomers... I've seen that before in Edinburgh.

Great day, with a very well attended lecture in the morning, and a seminar with colleagues this afternoon. Thereafter I wandered into the city centre, getting rather damp, and sorted out a few practicalities, such as visiting the bank. Dinner this evening was in a restaurant specialising in fish and seafood, and was the first food that I'd properly enjoyed in days. I did manage to keep Mr A company and refused all wine and other alcoholic beverages. My oh my, this is going to be a long 14 days.
