One man ...
... and his well.
A full on day - we rendezvoused with our travelling companions, Robert and Finola, in a café in Bandon and fuelled with scones went off towards Rathdrought in search of the Surfeit Well, or Well of the Medicinal Draught! We found George who was delightful and stopped what he was doing and lead us down to the well. Actually we all piled into Robert's car and went across a couple of bumpy fields, the Yeti coping very well, until the telltale lone tree appeared. The well was currently dry which was a shame for 3 drops of the water will cure you (and cattle) of stomach complaints and over -eating! The seat remains, as demonstrated, where you could sit to take a drop.
Next in search of an eye well not far from here. Pat was also wonderful and lead us to the site of the well - first time we've ever had a tractor convoy! The well had been filled in many years ago but Pat knew exactly the location, now marked by a few dock leaves.
An excellent lunch at Diva's in Ballinspittle and we managed one more well and an old church with some interesting graves, before we had to zoom back, have a quick wash and brush up before going out to supper. Also excellent - those three drops might have been useful after a myriad of curries and homebaked cheesecake.
And the extra was an amazing sight as we drove down the peninsula - the sea, the estuary and the cattle were all steaming! It was a cold and frosty morning and obviously the sea was warmer than the air temperature - it didn't feel like it yesterday!
