Bouquetin Nuptials are about to Happen Soon
In the high Alps the huge males are competing for dominance then relaxing, waiting for the right moment. They are in superb condition right now which is good, as snow will be falling at this level from tomorrow apparently. You can see that the sky has turned milky indicating a weather change.
Hibou and I had a superb walk to 2,700m to the col between the Petit and Grand Muveran. From the valley below we had spotted a herd of male bouquetins on the skyline ridge and changed our route to go "off piste" towards the herd. You can see Hibou in action (in the extras) on the ridge once we had abandoned our rucksacks to move more easily in bouquetin territory. The second extra shows Bouquetin silhouettes from much lower down when the sky was still blue. What a privilege, always, to see these wonderful animals.
Now very tired, off to bed early....goodnight.
