Back Lights

We’ve had overnight frosts before but last night we had the first hard one.  We woke up to a special stillness and plants covered in glistening icy crystals.  I really liked this backlit shot of the dead cosmos taken early in the day.  Shortly afterwards the plants were back to their blackened autumnal state.
 
Despite this I broke through some crispy soil to plant shallots.  There was a time when I’d have left the garden to its own devices in the middle of October and returned in spring.  Not any more, there is still much to be getting on with.
