Palm Tree Connoisseur

There are plenty of palm trees around here and I have found myself becoming fascinated by them.  Those that are looked after and have the lower branches removed reward a closer look with many many beautiful textures and shapes.  Those unloved wildly towering palms become things of dereliction and sadness as they spill their neglect across the sky and the ground...

We visited Arrecife this morning and parts of the town were beautiful and clearly well-loved.  Other parts were in need of a little more love, or should I say money?  What I did find, however, was that all the buildings were fascinating and there were some wonderful apparently art deco features - for example the iron gates on the big cinema building in extras.  There was also interesting graffiti around and so many signs of a fascinating history in a town which seems to have had a recent (comparatively) heyday and is now not doing so well.

All of this is conjecture, of course, but it would be one of those places that would make for an interesting photography walk.  Have a look at extras to get a taste of the surroundings.
