All Hallow's Eve

Tonight is All Hallow's Eve when in the Christian religion it is an evening of prayers and fasting prior to All Saints' Day tomorrow. How this translated into "trick or treat" and witches seems almost to verge on blasphemy.

Halloween in its current form has thrown off the religious connection and recalls an even older Celtic pagan festival dating back to the Druids, and marks the coming of winter. Most of what we associate with Halloween has probably been hyped up for commercial reasons to boost sales of the associated merchandise.

As I am still without a car I took a trip to a supermarket in town. The afternoon was slightly wet, and very gloomy. The up lights in the new fountain in front of Marischal College were reflecting nicely in the water jets. So no religious or halloween theme to the picture today.
