The rebel cities

On 5th November 1980, Manchester City council declared the first nuclear free city in the midst of the Cold War and mutually assured destruction Titled "The Doves of Peace", the commemorative sculpture stands in Salford at the heart of a successful regeneration project. Maybe it brought luck. After a day of spreadsheets, taking the photo led me to random googling and the discovery of the story of the communications teams with dedicated tunnels, offices and tropical fish beneath the sister cities. I do hope some of it is true.
