Bridge 123d
Another one in my Shropshire Union Canal bridge series. This is without doubt the most unattractive canal bridge in Chester and carries the inner ring road, St Oswald's Way, over the canal. It was constructed in the 1970s and I like to think that a more elegant structure would have been put in its place had it been built now. It certainly lacks the style of Bridge 123c which you can just about see in the far distance.
In between 123c and 123d there is a footbridge for guests of the Mill Hotel to cross over to a gym on the other side of the canal. This is unnumbered but I may photograph this as well.
I'm wondering how it came to be 123d as the implication seems to be that there was a previous bridge here with the same number but looking at old maps this doesn't seem to be the case.
This is the 65th Shropshire Union Canal bridge I have photographed. To see the rest of the series just click on the shroppiebridgeseries tag. The vast majority are much more photogenic than this one.
