Fond farewell

This much loved Copper Beech at the gate of Arnside Cemetery sadly has to come down.

It is suffering from Kretzschmaria deosta. Quite a mouthful but it is more commonly called Brittle Cinder and is a fungal disease affecting several deciduous trees.

In summer this tree was an impressive sight and it will be much missed.
