Chris and the Berber.
Our last day but we don't leave until late afternoon. So after checking out we took a stroll into the Medina again and had a coffee in the Artisanat.
We then decided to have a closer look at the Koutoubia mosque which dominates the skyline from the Place Jemaa el Fna. It wasn't open but we had a wander around. I stopped to take photos and then found Chris around the corner with this gentleman who said he was a Berber. Chris can't resist engaging with people even though he doesn't want to buy anything.
As I approached he asked if I was his wife and said I was worth 20,000 camels whilst thrusting a bracelet on my wrist which was 'free'. I walked on whilst amid much laughter the conversation carried on between Chris and the Berber. I turned to take this but unfortunately missed him being kissed by the seller when Chris then bought another bracelet that I didn't want!
We've had quite a bit of hilarity with our waiter over Chris being called a Berber by the man we bought from in the Souk on the first day. He guessed Chris was from Liverpool and then Manchester, which of course didn't go down too well.
Chris said he was from Yorkshire the response was he was a Berber then!
Of course Chris wanted to know if this was an insult so asked our waiter. He hesitated and said no but Berbers were careful with their money! Sounds right for a Yorkshire man. He has been Mr Berber to the waiter since then.
We found another garden on the way back. There are lots of green oases around the city, no doubt needed in the summer when it can reach 50 degrees. Lunch by the pool and now the waiting game. Posting while I have Wi Fi.
It's been a lovely break. Very clean everywhere and in the main lovely, fun people even if they are trying to get money out of you!
