Daylily day

Today has been extremely hot and not the weather for looking around the Belair area for an interesting architectural blip. So the alternative is our garden. Back garden - searched and nothing special. OK let's try the front garden next. No bugs as it is too hot for them apart from the ants, so it looks like it will be a flower.

I spotted the day lily bush full of buds, and the heat had brought out just one flower. This made up my mind as it is only going to be at its peak and blipable for one day. I am not sure exactly what this cultivar is called so I am calling it "Yellow Australis!" Seen better in LARGE.

Daylilies are beautiful, long-flowering perennials in an endless range of exotic colours. They are easy to grow, low maintenance and one of the most hardy and drought tolerant plants available.

Daylily cultivar flowers are highly diverse in colour and form, as a result of hybridization, where thousands of registered cultivars are appreciated by Daylily Societies around the world.

As this name suggests, the flowers typically last no more than 24 hours. The daylily is native to Eurasia, including China, Korea, and Japan. Most kinds of Daylilies occur as clumps and have thickened roots in which they store food and water. They are very easy to grow in the more temperate parts of South Australia.
