Adelaide-Melbourne rail line
The Adelaide to Melbourne railway line is a standard gauge railway corridor that runs between the cities of Melbourne, Victoria and Adelaide, South Australia.
This is the main freight line from Adelaide to Melbourne and this blip was taken just outside the Belair National Park looking eastwards towards Melbourne.
It is also the route for The Overland passenger train operated by Great Southern Railways. There's no better way to enjoy the trip between Adelaide and Melbourne than on The Overland.
The Overland runs a daylight service between Adelaide and Melbourne in both directions, twice a week. I recall a few years back when it was a daily service. Cheap airfares have helped cut the rail business back to its present condition.
It is a wonderful rail journey and is one that I took a number of times when I was younger. It passes through classic Australian country towns including Murray Bridge, Bordertown, Nhill, Dimboola, Horsham, Ararat and Geelong.
