1478. Lest we forget....
This medal was given to Master Daniel Sellars McMillan who was born on December 26th 1863 in Glasgow...he lived at 41, Robertson Lane, Glasgow as a child. He was killed aboard the “Caldergrove” which was sunk off the Irish coast by a German submarine on the 6th March 1917 at the age of 53. He was a merchant seaman and is commemorated at the Tower Hill Memorial in London. My husband bought this and one other medal of his at an auction a few years ago and we tracked down his records and discovered where he was born and exactly where he died. A few years ago we laid a poppy cross near his name at the Tower Hill Memorial for naval and merchant servicemen and women. An older man who served his country and lost his life doing his duty.....lest we forget....
