The Long View
We stopped at Scott's View in mid-morning, just as the sun was about to disappear behind the massing clouds. I'm glad we went out when we did. We were on our way to Dryburgh Abbey, and when we got there we had the entire place to ourselves.
It is so tranquil, down by the Tweed (the valley in the shot above). Sir Walter Scott is buried there, and near him, Earl Haig, commander of the British Expeditionary Force on the Western Front from late 1915 to the end of the war. His conduct of the war is still controversial, to put it mildly. There was just one simple bouquet of flowers on his grave.
I've ground to a halt with the quilting project. The border doesn't fit the central part. Something is wrong with my maths. It's fixable, but I'd like to understand where my mistake is. I think I have probably interpreted the instructions wrongly - geometry was never my strong point :-(
