Thursday Walk

My walk this week (with a colleague) took us through the Suffolk villages of Hartest, Boxted, Fenstead End, Stansfield, Somerton and a lot of very muddy footpaths, a total of 10.2 miles (pedometer reading).
The photograph was taken in the "Holy Trinity Church" in Boxted. The effect of sunlight streaming in through the doorway and window is difficult to describe but it will be something that I can reflect on later. It was just a moment in time captured forever by a piece of modern technology.
On top of the tomb chest are the effigies of William Poley (d.1587) and Alice his wife (d.1577). He is dressed in armour with his head on a helmet; she has a prayer book with the arms of Poley and Shae, and her head rests on an engraved pillow; a dog rests at her feet. The figures were restored and the black paint removed from the stonework in 1992.
We started and finished the walk in Hartest, the weather went from a frosty morning with brilliant sunshine to snow at the finish in the late afternoon, a fantastic days walk.
