The New Bird Feeder

Dear Diary,

The new and improved bird feeder arrived yesterday and it is guaranteed to be squirrel proof.  It is a very well-made steel affair that closes up if a squirrel sits on the top or tries to get on one of the perches.  This little chickadee is checking it out, a little unclear about this new contraption.  They figured it out quickly though.  Now we will see if it lives up to its name, "Squirrel Buster"!

Last night I found out that there is one squirrel that it doesn't "bust", a tiny, nocturnal flying squirrel.  He had no problem hanging on the metal mesh or sitting on the perch and helping himself to some seeds.  They are real feather weights so I am not surprised.  If it keeps Gaylord and Rudy out I will be happy.  In case you've never seen one of these darling little nighttime robbers, I've added an extra, shot through glass and in nearly pitch-dark conditions but it will give you an idea.
