Yellomundee

As you descend from the Blue Mountains via the Hawkesbury Road, you come eventually to Yellomundee Park which (on a clear day) provides a vantage point from which one can see clear to the Sydney CBD highrise and the Tasman Sea. Unfortunately, while there was a blue sky today, conditions were basically hazy.

Below, we catch a glimpse of the Nepean River along with part of its flood plain. For many years this area had been an important source of coarse industrial sand and had degenerated to be a series of largely abandoned quarries. Those scars in the landscape are presently in the process of being flooded to become restored wetland environments, native fish farms, water recreation precincts and waterfront housing developments. This big project is "The Penrith Lakes".
