Santa !
The Lions Holiday Parade happened this morning. I walked down to the 4-way intersection starting point. I was pleasantly surprised to see some changes had been made and congratulate the Lions for their expert organizing of the event. Cars were allowed thru at intervals. Police and Lions at each of four corners lined up the groups and then alternated them down the road, with one grandmaster over all. Each walking group was preceded by a banner with their organization (or school), or were riding either horses, flatbed trucks, truck cabs, fire engine, or cars. Beauty queens rode perched above the back seats of mustangs. Our own Little League World Series winners rode in an older fire truck. A woman walked with three ! Great Danes. All three political representatives were there, one of them on a Segway. There was a full complement of cute kids, stuffed animals, and costume getups. Lots of reindeer antlers and Christmas tree headgear and lots of pulled wagons. One guy had a stripped hat that danced on its own, rippling up and down (that must have felt weird on his head). There was a large group of bagpipers. In one of the floats, the children representing the animals at the nativity, wore hats of the animals instead of a costume (clever). And did I mention the five tubas - five in a row in one band. (see note below) Took about 40 minutes for the parade to file out of the intersection. I leisurely walked back home.
Edit: Those 5 (what-I-called-tubas) are not really - they are "sousaphones", in the tuba family of instruments. The white ones must be plastic, only one of the five were shiny brass.
