trying hard to like Addis
My initial impression of Addis Ababa was that it was sprawling, noisy and polluted. However, I decided to give it another chance. Arriving from Lalibela, we decided to walk from the airport. As you can see, the road is undergoing improvements.. (That's D on the left, with the rucksack). It was difficult to navigate as few roads have street signs. And soon after this photo was taken, D was attacked by a gang of small boy pickpockets. They start by offering to sell you something small, and then cluster round and very skilfully undo zips and buttons without you knowing. We knew this was a risk, and so D had his passport in a buttoned-up shirt pocket. Still, this boy had the passport in his hand before D grabbed it back and knocked the boy to the ground (he felt bad about that). It left a bad taste in our mouths.
