Stir-up Sunday.
A tradition that dates back to Victorian times when the family would gather together to stir the Christmas pudding weeks before Christmas.
The opening words of the Book of Common Prayer used the last Sunday before Advent, reads:
“ Stir up, we beseech thee, O Lord , the wills of thy faithful people.”
So the tradition stands that this is the day to get stirring!
One of the Stir-up traditions is that the pudding traditionally contains 13 ingredients to represent Jesus and his disciples.
I have just counted the ingredients in my puddings and there are 21!
I wonder how many other blippers have been making their puddings today?
I thought it the best thing to do on another dreary damp day.
