Confusing Advice

Managed to get into Perth for the first time in ages and met a friend for lunch and some retail therapy:) Also went to a couple of camera shops to get advice about a lens and was told completely different stories in each!! I need to take pictures of snow, possibly in low light and wanted to know whether a UV or Polarising lens would be best. In spite of getting opposing advice, the problem was solved when the only lens either of them had was a UV one, so that's what I bought! Will explain more later:)
