Neighborhood Bakery

It's a bit of a stretch to say this is in our neighborhood--we have to drive crosstown to get there--but here is a guy making wonderful bread in his backyard! It's a word of mouth thing to get on his mailing list, and then you have a weekly chance to order bread, scones, galettes and cookies, all fabulous and all made right here in his homemade wood-fired oven. Customers come in, choose their bread, leave money in the basket. The baker juggles a complicated phone conversation, trips to his other oven to check on the cookies, and a report of  surfing conditions from a buddy who stopped by for a loaf. I know where I'm going to be every Monday morning from now on!
