Iceland, Day 2

Another fabulous day today!! We packed loads in!!
Breakfast in the dark again. Just before 9am I looked at Find My Friends to check that Mr K had managed to drop the Little Misses off at their respective schools. He had, whoop whoop!!
It was a bit disconcerting seeing that he was 1183 miles away rather than the usual 21!!
When we couldn't eat another thing, mum and I hauled ourselves out to the car and set off for a proper explore. We re-traced yesterday's steps to Kirkjufell and parked up to go for a walk to the waterfalls (Kirkjufellfoss)
Mr K and I watched the first series of Game of Thrones about three times (because I kept falling asleep and having to watch episodes again, then we left it too long between episodes and had to start again because I couldn't remember who anyone was or what was happening and I got a bit OCD about it and wanted to start again. Poor Mr K!!)
There's a scene where Jon Snow and his friends venture to find the Army of the Dead north of The Wall. They know where to go because The Hound had a vision of the Dead marching past a mountain shaped like an arrowhead. That's Kirkjufell.
Less snow today - and fewer dead people - but stunning nevertheless!!
At the top of the waterfalls we saw a man propose to his girlfriend who thankfully accepted. It was very sweet!!
Then it was back in the car to carry on. Uncharted territory now!!
We stopped at a wonderful clifftop to admire the views of the glacier capped volcano, Snæfellsjökull, to eat a box of M&S stollen bites, drink hot chocolate and scan the ocean for whales and dolphins. No luck - although every wave, bird and rock looked uncannily looked whale-like!
Through fishing towns, detouring to windswept churches and extinct volcanic craters.
When we were ready for our half board option I followed a turn off that had a picnic area sign. Best turn off ever!!!!
After about a mile driving through amazing moss covered giant lava rock formations we arrived at a surprisingly full car park. It turned out we had stumbled upon Djúpalónssandur Beach. Wow!!!!!
Black pebbles; crashing waves; four giant boulders fishermen used to use to show off their strength; the incredibly poignant iron debris from the wreck of the British trawler Epine from Grimsby which was wrecked on the beach killing all but five of the nineteen crew; the frozen lagoon; the sunshine making everything look sparkly and even more beautiful; the view of the snow capped volcano. Just amazing!!
We so enjoyed our walk! And we so enjoyed the half board option when we got back to the car. Cheese and salami on delicious granary bread (me), pickled herring and smoked salmon (Mum. Yuck!!!!) M&S tiffin bites, apricot and pecan pastries, and hot chocolate for both of us!!
After a brief stop in Hellnar watching a sea hawk hunting and scanning the sea again for whales and seals (without success!!) it was getting dark and time to head home.
Dinner was M&S ridiculously chocolatey chocolate biscuits and my posh pot noodle - Kabuto ramen noodles with chicken, ginger, chilli, coriander and spring onion. So tasty!!
Tonight's film on E4 was 45 Years. I was falling asleep watching it so texted Mr K and asked him to record it on +1.
