One Street

I have joined Kendall's challenge of blipping just one street over a period of time.

Come walk with me down High Street in this rural market town of Rangiora, North Canterbury, NZ. Its hot, the road is dusty, drovers are ambling with their horses while dogs follow beside, farmers are mingling chatting about the latest down at the stockyards. The buildings are businesses of blacksmiths, saddlers, livery stables and coach builders, general stores, hotels, boarding houses and tearooms.

High Street was first known as Harewood Forest Road. It became High Street in 1879 when names were formalised. High Street runs east to west, sunrise to sunset, we are looking west just before sunset.

High Street has embarked on a quiet but interesting passage through the late-Victorian years into the present day where there is much turmoil as times begin again to change.

This journey could be slow as theres much research to be done, but the change is happening rapidly I will have to be on the ball - we'll see what there is to discover along the way.
