The Glasshouse
I met up with my oldest school chum G - oldest as in known the longest not chronologically!
We went for a meal to The Glasshouse at Eskmills, in Musselburgh which is owned by one of Scotland's most creative chefs, Steve Adair. I had heard reports about it before but I was suitably impressed. The atmosphere was lovely and the food was brilliant. Being typical Scots we went on special offer night and got a brilliant 3 course meal for £15ph!
It's in a former historic mill which has been transformed to create the restaurant. The traditional architecture of the mill has been blended with a striking glazed extension which houses the restaurant. It offers 270 degree views to the water pools and fountains in the courtyard and the restored Victorian mills. Imaginative lighting at night adds to the atmosphere and the restored central dome is up lit and slowly changes colour for dramatic effect above the bar.
With a huge natural larder from the surrounding East Lothian countryside the restaurant has a commitment to using local produce and suppliers, which for us locals is key to keep the local economy going
We nattered for hours and eventually got evicted from the restaurant just as it was closing!
This was a quick blip on exit as I realised at 23.45hrs I hadn't taken my blip yet!
