Why did I come in here?

Orange Slime Mould

A few days ago during the "dry" season I found this wonderful slime mould growing on an old piece of gorse bush which was dying back. So this morning I went out with my trusty day sack, plastic box, bubble wrap and knife. I now know that in future the kit will include secateurs. The reasons I cut it off and brought it home are a) there was plenty so hopefully I'm not messing up anything in the circle of life and b) I cannot get steady multiple layer macros in the field. I'm not able to hold the camera still enough and I cannot carry a tripod. (This is an amalgamation of 13 images)
So here we have my first foray with the snip it and run kit; rather like those dear old ladies who are the curse of National Trust Gardens with their tiny nail scissors and big bags. :-))

The world is good today. Running rivers, happy dog, happy Mrs Bootneck (must admit I'm suspicious that she knows something about my life expectancy that I don't!) nice people out walking, interested enough to allow me to show their children the various fungi and even handle the plants. Makes me hope for our race.

Be brave, look huge.
