Birthday lunch at The Gardener's Cottage
As last year, we celebrated the birthdays of Katharine and Jack over Sunday lunch today at The Gardener's Cottage. The first course was celeriac soup, and there was tarte tatin for pudding. While these dishes were of adequate size, we thought that the main course of venison was rather meagre (blipped).
Given last year's shock at the size/cost of the cheese board, we returned to our flat for cheese and oatcakes. Then Mr hazelh and I grabbed our bags to trek up to Waverley and catch the train south, then another west. I managed to write and submit a conference abstract on the first train. Work was impossible on the second one due to the crush of jolly (and entertaining) NUFC fans heading home after the match.
I'm now installed at my mother's house until Friday, with a commute to Edinburgh planned mid-week to start an exam. Mr hazelh is staying here until Tuesday. There is much to be sorted over the next few days, but my middle sister has worked out a plan to ensure that everything will be done efficiently, effectively, and in the right order.
Exercise today: some (much not much) walking (9956 steps).
