Regatta Café, Helsinki
Today was our last in Helsinki. Before we left for the airport this afternoon we squeezed in a final bit of fun with a visit to the Café Regatta.
The café is not far from the flat where ArcLight and alfthomas are staying during their sojourn in Finland. On our walk there the sun made a rare appearance and we enjoyed playing with the long shadows of 11:30 am(!) (blipped elsewhere). The café itself is very cosy and crammed with all sorts of interesting bits and pieces. We could have easily have been in Hogsmeade as we munched our way through cinnamon buns and croissants with steaming coffee and hot chocolate.
Our journey home by bus, plane and tram went very smoothly. It took just over seven hours to reach our flat. We were surprised to step out from the airport into chilly Edinburgh. It actually feels colder than Helsinki out there tonight.
While Mr hazelh programmed en route, I worked on the second of the two grant proposals that are due for submission by Thursday. The file is now back with my colleague Laura for further editing.
It was lovely to be greeted with a stack of Christmas cards when we pushed open the front door. Now that we have unpacked, I am very much looking forward to a bath (my first in over a week - we only had showers in Finland), and then a night in my own bed.
Exercise today: walking (11,034 steps)
