Ubeda at Nightfall

We took the bus from Granada to Ubeda (via Jaen and Baeza) arriving in the early afternoon. After bread and cheese in our hotel room and a brief siesta we went out for a walk. By the time we headed back night was falling and I took this shot, not thinking that it would be my blip. But impromptu as it was I think it works.

The Wiki article on Ubeda has a similar view in daylight. The inner city has wonderfully preserved renaissance architecture, which has earned it the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with its sister city, Baeza, which we will visit tomorrow.

In this image, the church is the Chapel of the Savior (Capilla del Salvador)--perhaps the most important church in the city. And on the right is the Parador, a top-level hotel housed in the former renaissance palace of a local nobleman.

There is a fountain in the foreground, and manicured hedges (both characteristic of the area) as part of the large square--it's the Vázquez de Molina Square.
