Naschmarkt, Vienna

We took a long walk around midday along the Naschmarkt (roughly, the Nosh Market), which is a stone's throw from our hotel. It's a structured, everyday market that extends about a mile, with four rows of merchants. It has everything imaginable, from cafes and restaurants to all sorts of shops. The quality is often very high, and I would rate many of the food offerings in particular as superb. Many of the merchants (as here) offer Glühwein (hot mulled wine), a seasonal specialty.

As wonderful as the market is, the few overall shots that I took are definitely not great, and so I'm posting a quiet image of a couple absorbed in one another, at one of the small cafes. Don't miss my face reflected in the visor of the gentleman's cap (best seen large), and the buildings alongside through the window. In the afternoon we went back to the Kunsthistorishes Museum, mainly for the antiquities and Egyptian collections--the latter were fabulous. We finished in the paintings gallery, to bid farewell to the unique group of Pieter Breughels--especially his Hunters in the Snow
