Lichfield Cathedral retrospectively. Luxmuralis
We went to see the amazing illuminations last night. The tickets were timed and ours was for 8.15 pm. Along with others who were in the queue we filed by the ticket collectors outside and walked around the Cathedral perimeter, to the great West Front.
There we all stood in the December drizzle which was drifting about the street lamps in a stiff breeze. It was totally worth it!
The illustrated light display with moving images included the Nativity story with the Wise Men on their camels, angels and the scene in the stable. It was accompanied by music.
As the images were constantly moving it was difficult to manage a very clear photo.
Once inside there were at least a thousand paper angels suspended above the Nave. Each one made by a schoolchild from the local schools.
They looked incredible in the ever changing colours.
In the side aisles by the Choir were Christmas trees each one decorated by a local organisation and charity.
It was lovely to see so many people from the very young to the elderly enjoying the beautiful building which has stood there for hundreds of years.
There was a Nativity scene in front of the screen which leads to the Choir, with at varying intervals, readings of the Christmas story from the Gospel of St Luke.
Touching to see so many others waiting to write a prayer to hang on one of the "prayer trees" in front of the chapel behind the Choir.
Many others lighting a candle.
A night to stay in the memory.
More photos in extras.
