Up north
A fortnight ago I made a blip of the Hoge der Aa from a different bridge in different circumstances, but with the same kind of weather.
When we arrived in Groningen, we decided to visit the museum first. The museum is opposite the central station. Its displayed permanent collection is not very large, but has a lot of paintings of well-known Groningen artists like Werkman, van der Zee and Jordens. Afterwards we made another walk through the city centre to the WinterWelVaart, an art, music and theatre festival in and around the historic ships in the Hoge and Lage der Aa. The ships are decorated with lights and on the quays are stalls with food and drinks and merchandise that can also be found on Christmas markets.
Then we went to eat in the pancake ship. All in all it has become a very touristy day.
We will travel further north tomorrow for aunt Betsy's funeral.
