Just a parrot's life

Today we again went to Utrecht, avian specialist

Today we went to dr. Yvonne van Zeeland and dr. Nico Schoemaker from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University, Birds and other exotic animals, with Tommy and Paulie.
Tommy: troubles with different things, such as holding his poop in the cage, behavioural issues, food intolerance.. He already got a hormone implant 3 times. He still troubles with this, but much less. But holding his poop is also probably a behavioural thingy. When I come home from work he mostly did one big poop in the cage and after taking him out of the cage to put him on the playtree, he mostly does a very big poop. Off and on he had to take antibiotics, because of the fact that his poop stinks way too much and also looked like pea soup LOL. Today he got an x-ray with barium contrast. My baby had to sit in a very small box … they put the barium in his crop and photos were taken at different moments, so that they could see the progress in his intestinal system. That took about 5 hours.. everything looked good,so that is the good news. On the other hand we still don’t know what exactly is wrong exactly. Tommy is smacking a lot every day. She the small video. It is possible that he does this because of some intestinal issues or nauseousness. Because of the barium which is still in his “tummy” here and there it can give some positive effect, so I will keep a close eye on that. Otherwise we have to go back in the near future for further research. Which Tommy could talk and say what is wrong lol.

Exactly two years ago Paulie is diagnosted by dr. Yvonne van Zeeland with (avian) Atherosclerosis. Till now he is on two meds, Atorvastatine and Pentoxifylline. He will need these the rest of his life. Lately I see that Paulie – after being busy of after a short fly – is short breathed. (see also video). So Paulie was also checked thoroughly by Yvonne. The most possible thing is heart issues. But it is not that bad because no fluids in his tummy. Also his liver seems somewhat bigger. We decided to first try an extra medicine for heart issues (this makes the blood vessels more wide). I have to keep a good eye on him because there is a very small possibility that he gets more drowsy.. if so I have to get in touch with the vet asap. So Paulie now needs 3 different meds every day.

I was in Utrecht at about 10 AM and got home at about 6 PM so I am worn out! It was a very long day, but for the best purpose of course, LOL
