It's all about the pace
Today was always going to be a little tricky: it was the office party, this afternoon, the school Christmas concert at the church at seven, and then I was going out with friends afterwards, which I was really looking forward to.
The main hurdle, of course, was the office do. Traditionally, we start about one o'clock and I take my leave around five, before it starts getting too messy. But, as you'd imagine, I have a few drinks over the course of the afternoon but I didn't want to turn up at the church in my cups.
You'll be relieved to hear that it all went fine, though. Drink was taken with my colleagues before Milly came and picked me up at five. By the time we were home, this left me and hour and a half to drink plenty of water and to take a little nap before I walked down to St Mary's.
The service was a treat: a mixture of musical and choral performances, poetry and readings, and, of course, plenty of carols. And after that, we went 'round to the Royal for pizza. There was an 'end of term' feel to the evening and I was able to relax and enjoy myself.
