A whole-hearted attempt to shop for groceries at Granville Island turned into a less-than-1-hr adventure at Capers Kitsilano. We tried, we really did - but one look at the loooong, backed-up turn-lane of cars all having the same idea was enough to detour us from our apparently courageous plan. Ah well - maybe next time:(
For four years straight, I passed by the Capers in Kits twice every school day via the no. 4 bus, but never once have I ever really poked around the pricey grocery store until today. It was extremely busy with last minute grocery shoppers, and I got to sample lobster tail meat drenched in lemon butter oil, as well as a huge chunk of salmon. So huge, in fact, that my bf kept looking over at the samples to make sure that they were indeed free samples.
After a few rounds of back and forth through the aisles, we settled on the following items for our dinner avec my parents:
- Indian yam soup
- spinach and feta brioches
- whole wheat pasta
- basil pesto
- fresh, thinly shaven parmigiano-reggiano
- salmon, spinach, and feta patties
- greek salad
- apple pie
With our grocery purchase, we were given a free single white rose and a chocolate, so that was a nice surprise. And yes, no ice cream - trust me, I regretted not buying ice cream as I smelt the savoury aroma of apples and cinnamon wafting from the table-top oven.
Gosh, I can't wait until Whole Foods opens on Cambie!! I will be treating myself to a delicious hot lunch every Friday from their ginormous hot foods selection. Yummm...
