New Year's Day
Firstly thank you so much for your very warm and kind comments on my blip anniversary yesterday, I have read every comment and appreciated every one of them and all the hearts bestowed on me. The Blip community certainly is a very special one!
Last night we had such fun celebrating New Year's Eve - photo of the boys in extras. When we arrived at the restaurant we recognised the entertainer who has performed there previously, and he even made a special mention of how this was our 14th visit to the restaurant for New Year. He then proceeded to play all our favourite songs from his repertoire, which included Sweet Caroline, Wonderwall, and Amarillo - we were soon dancing after supper and this continued until about 1.30am. The boys were entertaining the older Swiss guests doing this new dance called flossing (coincidentally John Gravett wrote about it in his journal yesterday). It was such a fun evening. We left the car at the restaurant and walked home in the thick fog and snow.
I was up early this morning, I wanted to photograph the sunrise as I knew it was going to be a sunny day. However it did not amount to much, which was disappointing. Although it was a beautiful day we decided not to ski as we knew it would be busy, being a perfectly good day after two days of snow. Instead we went for a drive to Davos as I wanted to see the lake, which is where I took this photo.
I have been wanting to visit the Landwasse Viaduct which is a signature structure of the UNESCO world heritage Albula railway line. As it is not that far from Davos we impulsively decided to drive further to Filisur to see it. However, it was much further than we realised and it took about an hour to get there. One parks the car at the station and then walks for about 20 minutes on a snowy path to the lookout platform. I wish we had planned it better as when we got there it was nearly lunch time, and once there we decided to wait for the train to come across it. Quickly googling the train timetable we realised we had another 30 minute wait for the train and so we decided to wait for it. It was built in 1901 from limestone and is famous as it is curved and cambered to account for centripetal action of a turning train. I should really have made this image my main blip as today was all about the train, but I decided to rather add it as an extra.
By the time we left there it was mid afternoon and we had not eaten anything, so we stopped in Davos and had a delicious dahl lentil soup at our favourite Kaffee Klatsch.
