Just a parrot's life

Tommy visited the avian specialist again

Today we again went to Utrecht, to dr. Yvonne van Zeeland and dr. Nico Schoemaker from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University, Birds and other exotic animals, with Tommy. See here for the latest update: https://www.facebook.com/ellen.uittenbogaard/posts/10210737895404030
Today a gastroscopy was planned. Done by one of the best they told me ;)Dr. Giora van Straten . As written in the last update (December 21, 2018) Tommy is smacking a lot every day and I see lots of slime in his beaky. This cán be caused by intestinal issues or nauseousness so that is why dr Yvonne suggested to do this gastroscopy. The test day did 2 weeks ago (x-ray with barium) came out fine, no issues found. During the gastroscopy they saw some little abnormalities in (if I remember well because the vet gave me so much info LOL) the crop. They did a biopsy and also the stomach they saw that the skin was quite red and looked irritated. They also took a biopsy and these will be sent to the lab for further research. Tommy needed Anesthesia and on his leg he got an cannula for infusion, only for when it was needed. Last but not least dr. Yvonne took some blood for further research.
Tommy had to be in an oxygen cage for a short while.
Tommy was such a good boy! The co-assistants loved him too.. and he is always so very easy to handle.
In the meantime he got meds. Sucralan (stomach protector), again Flagyl (anti biotics), metocloral (against nauseousness) and Ranitidine (antacid).
