Lakis Box
I was out of inspiration for blipping today so when I noticed my Russian Lakis (lacquered) jewellery box I thought it would be good to have a record of it.
When we bought a jeweller's business one of the early suppliers we met at a trade event had a Russian wife and was importing Russian items. As the sort of things he had, these boxes, matrioshka and tableware, were so different from anything being sold in our town we placed an order.
These works of art (250mm x 120mm) are handmade and hand-painted in villages to the northwest of Moscow and depict local traditions, wildlife or fairy tales. When we closed the shop we had 2 left so Alice took one and I took the other. This is it.
Cropped detail used as blip, full lid in Extras.
