Milkman

Lots of animation at Discussion group this morning. We all took along a newspaper cutting to talk about and discuss. Some topics warranted a full 2 hour discussion so are being put on the programme.

One of the topics was about the dangers to young people of social media. Somebody said you never see people reading a book while walking along, which reminded me of the above book which was chosen for our book group meeting next week. It won 2018 Booker prize. The voice in it is chastised for her weird practice of “reading while walking”. I wasn’t looking forward to the book as I’d got the impression it was difficult and odd, and nobody in it has a name. I didn’t find it so, but it has a claustrophobic, oppressive feeling. One night I had to stop reading as I got so stressed. Once I got into the voice of the protagonist I was hooked.

I’d be interested in hearing if anyone else has read it and what they thought.
