Last Baby?

If I was surprised to find an adult praying mantis yesterday then today I was equally surprised to find this hatchling in its first instar. It was really tiny. How did this happen? Did it hatch late from an ootheca that wasn’t emptied (there are several), or has it has it caught only a few small flies to keep it alive without actually growing?

A hot day, but good news. My son (Aliveunwed) is returning from his holiday and is bringing my daughter (FirehorseMia) with him.
