Unquiet corners

This memorial to women's suffrage stands in Christchurch Gardens, just off Victoria Street in London. It's a bit tucked away but on my cutthrough to work. It's sad that this sculpture celebrating progress for those without a voice stands in a garden where those without home or hearth gather. We might feel we can judge them for where they've been and where they've ended up, but in reality their situation could be just as much of an accident of birth or circumstances as those men and women who had to work so hard to be represented.
