Birchwood .......
........ is called Birchwood for good reason.
From 1939 to 1945 it was a huge munitions factory, with 22,000 people working on site. The mists on the Moss shrouded it from enemy aircraft above.
Now the Moss is a local nature reserve, surrounded by housing and industry/warehousing.. This is a view across the Mini Moss. It is all wet woodland, something this part of the north west of England does well.
