Tree bark lichen
A fine example of the lichen Lecidella elaeochroma growing on the smooth bark of a young ash tree, one of a very few lichen shots taken today at Marholm Field Bank. We were on site to clear the very large piles of brash created from our scrub clearance task in November. It looked daunting but it's surprising how much can be tackled by eight volunteers and a man with a chipper!
The evening was spent at a committee meeting out at Helpston. I was late, having been held up for well over five minutes at the level crossing, while five trains went through. Some useful discussion on an exciting new conservation initiative in the area, which will be taken further at a meeting tomorrow.
