Shovel

Shovels and large ones at that belonging to the pair on the pond. The shoveler's impressive beak is specially adapted for feeding on the surface of ponds and lakes picking out tiny plants and animals then sieving out the water. They rarely up-end like most surface feeding ducks but may dive if alarmed.

Thinking that I would make the most of the glorious sunshine I headed north of Worcester to pools where an American Widgeon has been seen this week by those in the know.

Having parked the car and looked at the numerous bodies of water I actually spoke out loud, 'You've not a hope in hell!' However not to be deterred set off but was proved right. Should have brought the bins!!
The long walk proved fruitless but lovely in the sun. Next time, if ever, I'll do it differently.
