The Matthew
John Cabot took 18 men to get to Newfoundland in the original caravel on which this replica is based.
Here it is at the Underfall Yard having some repair work done on it's underside. The slipway itself is pretty historic having been there since 1890 and having replaced an earlier example. It's called a Heave up Slip as the boat is pulled up on a cradle. I can't pretend Wikipedia hasn't helped a bit here.
We had a nice dog walk around the Harbour - a go to Sunday morning filler - followed by a Chai Latte and ridiculous Hot Chocolates for the boys.
It has been a particular kind of cold today but there's a run to be done at some point.
I've finally worked out what RED January means - run every day - where have I been?!
The extra photo shows the Underfall Yard from a bit further away, from outside the Cottage pub, to be precise. You probably won't be surprised to hear that Brunel had his hand in this as well.
The other extra shows the Figurehead on the front of the Matthew. Don't know why the dog gets the nod?
