The Red Zone

In a couple of weeks time it will be eight years since the Christchurch earthquake caused widespread damage and killed 185 people.

The recovery is slow and complex. The centre is beginning to show signs of life. Thousands of properties have been demolished. This is the area near the River Avon. Many acres cleared of houses, and decisions now about what to do with the space. Much of the land can’t be rebuilt on because of liquefaction.
