Built to last
At last the weekend arrived and I had time to build assemble my new bike. It said in the instructions that a person with some basic mechanical ability should assemble it in about 20-25 mins. It took me just over an hour!!
So here she is. I am so glad that I decided to email Workcycles a couple of weeks ago and change from green to black. It really is a gorgeous piece of engineering simplicity. Now I just need to name her.
I am so pleased with the bike. I have always wanted a proper dutch bike. I an totally enamoured with the Dutch/Danish cycling culture from the actual fiets to the cycling infrastructure that they have in place. I look with envious eyes to cities like Copenahagen and Amsterdam where the humble bicycle has taken over from the car as a primary means of transport. Where you can see parents taking their children to school in a bakfiets or business people going to meetings on their opafiets or omafiets. We have such a long way to go here but with the success of Wiggo winning the TDF and the success of the cycling team at the olympics, it seems the tide is turning. I feel like a pioneer and hopefully by the time my girls are are older, cycling will be seen as a normal activity and not just for the roadies and moutain bikers!
