Thursday
Another mug. It's a good week for mugs.
Another flat out office day. We got the 1,700 replacement (see Tuesday's Blip) letters into envelopes, labelled and stamped. It took the 3 of us most of the day.
I know a few of the addressees. One is a 50 year old intensive care nurse who is an Italian national. She speaks fluent English and Italian, obviously, and fluent Spanish (her native language). She has lived and worked in Scotland for at least 20 years. Her two children were born here.
I know her 18 year old daughter, and she also has an Italian passport. Despite being born here, having lived here all her life, and having a Scottish father, she is not entitled to UK citizenship.
Both will have to apply to to the Home Office for permission to stay in their homes, stay with their families and stay in their jobs under May's "let's all hate foreigners" campaign.
I'm pretty sure the mother will leave. I know the daughter will as soon as she finishes university.
In other news, first thing in the morning I got a photo from R in Vilnius. I've stuck it in Extras. It's not quite visible but the thermometer is reading -17⁰c. It seems the dog was not as keen on his morning walk as usual.
